This sign to Fort Dauphin (Tolagnaro) is about 500 km (312 miles) north of the city in almost a straight line. However, it takes 5 days average to get there, going at about 20 kph (12 mph), due to the road conditions in the southern region of Madagascar.

The road from Monseigneur to Chez jacqueline, past Libanona Peninsula. The dogs befriended Rob and I for the few days we were there. They met us every morning when we woke up to go catch the early waves, walked us back for lunch and met us again for the afternoon waves.

Waiting for us in the shade for our afternoon surf.

Along the village road on the way to Ambiananikely. Directly past the picture is a sea cliff that is about a 50ft drop to the beach and waves.

Pic St. Louis (Mt. St. Louis), the mountain blocking the route out of Fort Dauphin. The road out goes either north to the right or west to the left of the mountain. The mountain is directly NW of town and this view is looking right over the center, which is mainly village. The "city" is to the left, out of view.

Around the corner in the village Rob an I would make a daily pilgrimage for lunch for some deep friend barracuda. This woman's seasoning (fish fried in oil) was freaking amazing.

Man these were so good. I ate them faster than they could cool off.

Walking past the Chez Jacqueline.

The bay on the northeast of Fort Dauphin, a view from the city center, contains numerous rusty shipwrecks. We read that the shipwrecks were not accidental, but were insurance scams from abroad! However, they were pretty cool looking.

This ship is across the bay. If you look in the previous photo, you can see it way out in the center right.

This si the same one as the previous photo.

There is also a harbor below where one can charter a boat for diving, fishing, and spear fishing.

As well as the omnipresent pirogues

Down the main drag, just outside of the market. Most of the main road is unpaved, but the city center seems to have some remnants of paved roads.

This town is a mecca of flip-flops, shower shoes, beach sandals, tongs, sandals or whatever you call them.

Rob finds a IHOP hat.

I just looked confused in a bowling shirt he found in a seemingly unlikely place. But, that's what travel is all about.
