Dauphin Mada Surf Club. What do the words "Dauphin" and "Mada" mean you ask? Dauphin means dolphin in French. It is not uncommon, anytime of the year, to see dolphins swimming among the surfers, in fact we both seem to think it kicks ass to surf together. Fort Dauphin was founded in 1643 by pioneers from the French "Societe de l'Orient", the town was built in view of the Pic Saint Louis (the mountain in view from anywhere in town). Mada is just our nickname for Madagascar.

This website got started after two travelers, Rob and Aaron visited Fort Dauphin and hung out with the guys of Dauphin Mada Surf Club. Rob was decent with a board, Aaron however, was not. So, for a week Samsom offered boards and lessons. Otherwise, we all hung out and had a pretty rockin' time, meanwhile Tsilavo and Aaron collaborated on creating the site. If you are interested in hearing more about Rob and Aaron's two month odyssey through Madagascar, check it at www.exittoafrica.com/madagascar.

As we are at least 3 continents apart (and usually 2 oceans), website content and info is dependent on the inglorious yet existent internet connection in Fort Dauphin. There is also the language barrier, which generally is not a problem in person, but is through a computer terminal. If you would like more information, please fill out this form or email either Tsilavo in French or Malagasy, preferably, or in English at or Aaron in English or Swahili at .

Aaron is the operator of the independent travel service to Africa, Exit to Africa.
