African friends of Exit to Africa are people in Africa who have helped make our experiences in Africa second to none. They are hard working, friendly and honest business people who we have met and become not only business associates, but friends as well. We travel all over Africa and find out who is honest, organized, friendly, and provides a travel experience --so you don't have to. When you travel with Exit to Africa, you are placed into hands that genuinely want you to enjoy Africa. Below are a few of our friends and business associates.

We believe that the only way for Africans to elevate themselves (politically, economically and socially) is to do it themselves. Of course Africa can use the philanthropy of the world, but all the goodwill won't help unless individual Africans, as a whole, realize that they themselves can do what is necessary to succeed. That's why Exit to Africa is proud to employ local entrepreneurs and hard working individuals. We try hard to not hire large or foreign owned companies. We believe that this approach enables the average African to do something profitable for themselves and will also provide you with the intimate experiences of seeing that your travel to Africa is a contribution to someone's life and in fact, is very special.

Hicham & Ali
Cousins who's family owns a network of tourist facilities in Morocco. Hicham lives in fés and manages the Talaá, a hotel in the medina (old city). We met in July 2003. Hicham was an amazing host and hooked us up with local merchants for good deals, taxis, directions, and delish local food; even activities outside of Fés like our camel trek, which was amazing. Ali works out of Risanni where he runs a hotel and desert trekking activities (camels, duneboarding, etc). He showed us around the desert outpost, through the bazaars (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and even into his home in the casbah ( 6, 7).

Sunni & Samson
Your go to guys on the southern tip of Madagascar, in Fort Dauphin. Sunni (left) will willingly become your loyal aid in all manners. He is awesome at directions, things to do, people to meet, places to eat and will even go get you a case a beer when you are hanging out, as long as you provide him with the cash. He fetches people, can wake you up and find you in town when the sets start rolling in on the beach. Every once in a while you come across first class friends like this in Africa.
Samson is much like the rest of the Mada Surf gang. Awesome! He also is a great host. Some of our favorite memories are on Samson's balcony playing drums, guitar and enjoying a feast that would amaze the pilgrims. Oh yeah, and he will definitely provide when it comes to surfing.

Twee & his brother-in-law
San (Bushmen) of Northeast Namibia. Both Twee (left) and his brother-in-law are local experts on the flora and fauna of the region. Bushman have lived as egalitarian nomadic hunter-gatherers for thousands of years. Their language is considered one of the most complex and ancient of languages that are still spoken today and the race itself is considered to be one of the oldest on earth. Unfortunately population pressures (first from Bantus, then Europeans, and now modern society) has almost completely wiped Twee's people out. Almost no job opportunities exist in his part of the world. It is extremely important that we visit and contribute to this unique part of Africa's and human heritage.
