| This is a power packed trip for busy go-getters who want to take advantage of every moment of their short vacations. Warning: Not for the faint of heart, intense individuals only. This is our favorite quick trip itineraries and we offer very affordable midrange rates for this trip. |
Day One: Nairobi A modern tropical city is sight to see. Tour the city, starting with the famous Stanley Hotel business area and then walk over to the raucous and colorful Pan-African Gallery. Then hit the Norfolk Hotel for a ritzy lunch while listening to students at the music college across the street jam. Take a look at Joy Adamson's famous People's of Kenya tribal portraits exhibit. Chat with artists and admire their work at the Kuona Trust (an art studio for African artists) outside the museum. |
| End the day with an flesh feast at the world famous Carnivore Restaurant, where at least 4 game animals will be on the menu as well as the standard beef, lamb, chicken and pork. It is an all you can eat meat lovers dream! Typically ostrich, eland, kudu, gazelle, hartebeest, crocodile, and the number one favorite zebra are on the menu. There are many options in Nairobi for resting your head, some very posh, and some very cheap. Decide based on your itinerary. |
Day Two: Ol Doinyo Lengai (Oldoinyo Lengai)
|
| Drive through some of the most rugged terrain of the rift valley via the border crossing into Tanzania. Go through the heartland of the Maasai people and see their true way of life. Zebra, ostrich wildebeest, gazelle, and giraffe are commonly seen in this remote region. The drive will get you to the foot of the volcano before evening. Your safari cook and crew will set up camp and have your dinner ready shortly. Meanwhile, PREPARE TO CLIMB AN ACTIVE VOLCANO UNDER THE LIGHT OF THE STARS. It is too hot in the Rift to climb in daylight and entering the crater is impossible during the day as it can reach 126ºF inside. The hike starts at 12 AM. But have no fear, your guide and required Maasai guide will escort you safely into the crater and down, just in time for a late breakfast prepared by your safari staff. Top it off with a bottle of Scotch to celebrate your achievement. |
Day Three: Rift Valley Short Cut to Lake Manyara Natl. Park Sit back and enjoy the ride through more of the Rift Valley, the Cradle of Humanity. After arriving at your accommodations, there will be time for a late afternoon game drive. |
| Enjoy an amazing view at the panoramic campsite on the slopes above the lake or the excellent Manyara Wildlife Lodge with awesome buffet BBQ dinners. You can also camp or room at a hotel in the Mtu wa Mbu (Mosquito People Village) nearby the park and shoot pool in the evening with locals. |
Day Four: Lake Manyara Natl. Park Lake Manyara is nestled at the foot of a spectacular 2,000-foot escarpment and is surrounded by a lush tropical forest filled with towering mahogany and fig trees. This park offers excellent opportunity for bird watching and close up encounters with abundant giraffe, hippo, elephant, baboon. If you are lucky, you may spot the elusive world famous tree-climbing lions. This is also a great park for leopards. |
| Spend another night shooting pool in the village or lounging at the pool at your hotel overlooking the valley. |
Day Five: Tarangire or Ngorongoro Natl. Park If you choose Tarangire, you will be in for a real treat. There are hundreds of elephants in this riverine park. You will lose count before lunch. The only thing more amazing than the number of elephant babies you will see is the dominance of the land by ancient baobab trees. Many migratory herbivores and birds call this place home when the serengeti is dry. That mean's PREDATORS! |
| If you don't about Ngorongoro, read about it. It's possibly the most famous safari destination in the world, second to the Serengeti. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. |
| Awesome campsites and super luxurious lodges dot the crater rim. If you sleep on the inside of the crater rim, you can wake up early and watch the clouds slowly sink in, across the crater and then rush from below you, up at you and over the rim. |
Day Six: Arusha Town Spend the day cruising this bustling frontier town, before your night flight out. There are a lot of great crafts markets, Maasai markets, and specialty shops all over town. Don't forget to get a good deal on some REAL Tanzanite from one of our local business partners. Tanzanite offered by suspicious people and small vendors is circumspect. Only trust reputable sellers in town. |
| Small specialty bed & breakfast and guest house accommodations are popping up in Arusha these days and are an alternative to the very nice, but somewhat chilly hotels. The Klub Afriko Hotels is our main choice while in Arusha and the staff is very friendly and helpful. |
Day Seven: Arusha Town (Optional)
|
| If you flight leaves town today, it is probably a night flight as well and you will have time to check out some more interesting nooks of Arusha or outlying areas. Even walk around some of the friendly Meru villages on the slopes of Mt. Meru. |
